Welcome to Carolina Taiji. We train and share the benefits of Taiji in the Winston Salem/King, North Carolina area. At Carolina Taiji, we will concentrate on health and wellness needed to feel successful in Taiji. Carolina Taiji is dedicated to offering professional and caring instruction to the community. We offer Hunyuan Chen Style Taiji to promote balance, flexibility, and health. We offer private classes to accommodate your needs, as well as classes at the Stokes YMCA in King, NC. Regardless of your age or level of experience, we are dedictated to helping those who wish to learn Taiji.

If you are curious about the spelling of Taiji and you have always seen Tai Chi...well it is the same thing.  We see Tai Chi on most books, classes, or schools because it is easier for us to pronounce.

What is Taiji or Tai Chi

Taiji is a slow moving form that most have seen and is visually pleasing to watch.
Taiji or Tai Chi is a several hundred-year-old Chinese martial art that has positive benefits for health and wellness. Taiji is noted for improving postural control and balance, flexibility, coordination, agility, strength and power, sensitivity and awareness. These are the primary benefits as noted from one of my teachers, Master Yang Yang. In his research, he also found that there were secondary benefits in areas of digestion, cardio-respiratory, immune system, treatment of arthritis, cognitive function (attention, concentration, learning, and memory), osteoporosis, physical improvements in multiple sclerosis patients, and quality of sleep. The holistic benefits are avoidance of stress, social interaction, calmness, peace, and tranquility.

We will practice Hunyaun Chen style taijiquan (Tai Chi) and qigong. The classes will start with qigong, exercises to warm up and loosen muscle and joint. While practicing, we try to lose the problems of the day, by relaxing and thinking about the slow movements to further relaxing and stress reduction.
Qigong are slow movements, but they are single movements versus the flowing patterns of Tai Chi. Qigong are easy to learn and can help loosen areas of the body where you may need to concentrate. Qigong can also be used to pinpoint specific areas like balance, for example. Tai Chi, although a little more challenging, is very relaxing due to the flow and slow easy movements and is an overall benefit to your body, instead of targeting one area. Together they make a complete class for health and relaxation.
